# “Lietz Residents Help Lietz Residents”

**A strong network for all generations**

The Lietz Boarding School in Haubinda sees itself not merely as a school, but as
a community for life. This special bond does not end with graduation—it lives on
in **the network of alumni friendships**.

## What are “long-time residents”?

The Association of Alumni and Friends of the Hermann-Lietz Schools looks back on
a **tradition spanning** more than** 100 years**. With approximately 2,000 members,
the association is now one of the largest alumni organizations in Germany. Over
the decades, nearly 5,000 alumni of all ages have joined the association.

### A network with a purpose

From the very beginning, the goal was clear: **Lietz residents helping other Lietz
residents**. The association supports the Lietz boarding schools both internally—
through direct support for students and teachers—and externally, by promoting its
unique educational approach and keeping it alive.

The network builds connections across generations: former and current students,
teachers, and friends of the Lietz Schools. This fosters **meaningful relationships,**
provides **practical support**, **and** facilitates **a valuable exchange of experiences**
that extends far beyond the school years.

### How exactly do the senior citizens help?

A prime example of this commitment is the **scholarship fund**:

As early as 2004, an independent foundation was established from a special fund
of the association

Each year, starting in 11th grade, several scholarships are awarded—covering up
to 50% of the costs of the educational contract

Requirements include good academic performance, involvement in extracurricular activities,
and a willingness to use one’s skills to serve the community

In this way, the alumni help ensure that talented young people, **regardless of
their financial situation**, have the opportunity to attend a Lietz school and experience
the unique atmosphere of a boarding school community.

The alumni network proves that **once a Lietzer, always a Lietzer.** The sense of
community doesn’t end with graduation; it continues to grow throughout one’s life.
