Community & Daily Life
Feeling secure – learning responsibility
The Lietz Boarding School in Haubinda is a vibrant home for children and teenagers. Whether they are boarding or day students, all of them grow up in a community that combines a sense of security, responsibility, and a genuine village culture.
Life in Boarding School Families
At Haubinda, the students live in small boarding families. Eight to ten children share a house or apartment with two teachers on the spacious grounds.
This creates a home where children feel comfortable—and at the same time learn to take on responsibilities.
Balancing School and Everyday Life
The students are also well cared for in class. Small class sizes allow for individualized attention. Those who need extra help receive tutoring or academic support from the teaching staff.
Day students from the region are an integral part of the village community:
The boarding school’s daily schedule is clearly structured: study time, free time, shared meals, and projects alternate, providing the children and teenagers with a sense of security and direction. In this way, the village community extends beyond the boarding school, connecting the school, the village, and the region.
The village store “Schaufenster”
A highlight of daily life is the village store “Schaufenster,” run by students.
In addition to the store in Haubinda, there is also the Schul-Konsum in Westhausen, which the Hermann-Lietz School reopened in collaboration with the local community. This has created not only a store but also an important social gathering place in the town.
Experiencing community—on both a small and a large scale
Village life is all about diversity and community:
This creates an environment where children and young people don’t just learn, but live—in a community that supports them.
